Word of the Day Challenge: Myopia

Myopia – lack of foresight or discernment; obtuseness/narrow-mindedness; intolerance

Spoilers for: Merlin 4×09, Lancelot Du Lac

Disclaimer: Don’t own Merlin

Merlin knocked on the door. There was no answer. He knocked again.

Still nothing.

He pushed the door open. No one voiced from inside. When he poked his head around the door, the room appeared to be empty. That was, until he spotted a lump on the bed.

He closed the door behind him as he made his way over. Sure enough, Leon was still asleep.

Merlin placed a hand on his shoulder and rocked him gently. He came to slowly, a confused noise escaping his lips before he spotted Merlin.

“Merlin? What’s wrong? Is Arthur in danger?”

He sat up abruptly, but Merlin held him in place before he could start rushing about.

“No, nothing’s wrong. Well, not with Arthur, at least. All the knights are down at training, they sent me up to find you.”

Leon paled. “I overslept?”

Merlin took his hand away and nodded. Leon groaned and wiped a hand over his face.

“Are you okay? You haven’t been having flashbacks again, have you?”

“No. It’s…”

Leon stood and walked over to his wardrobe. He pulled a large stack of paper from inside and dropped it onto the table.

“I was up late finishing all of this off.”

Merlin read the first line of the top piece of paper, and recognised it immediately.

“This is Arthur’s paperwork. Why are you doing it?”

Leon ran a hand through his hair. “I’m not sure if he’s let on, but he hasn’t been doing very well since Gwen was banished. He has been falling behind on his duties.”

“And he’s making you pick up the slack?”

Leon shook his head. “No, nothing like that. I’ve been doing it without him knowing.”

“At the expense of your sleep? You’re displaying myopia.”

“It’s actually not that difficult. It’s just… time consuming.”
