Now My Wings Fit

Word of the Day Challenge: Putative

In light of my looking over Heartstrings again, I’ve been getting more and more ideas about it. Including scenes which should have been included and I didn’t even think about when I was first writing it. This is one of them.

Putative – commonly regarded as such

Disclaimer: Don’t own Sherlock

As soon as he was alone, his phone vibrated in his pocket.

“Hello?”

“How are they?”

He was so taken aback by the worry in the usually so smooth voice that traveled across the phone line that he almost forgot to reply.

“Which one?” he stammered.

There was an impatient sigh. “Both of them. Either of them.”

“Well, Saige is… fine. Considering…” He trailed off, unable to get the deductive eyes out of his mind.

“And Sherlock?” The question was asked carefully, tentatively, as though he was afraid of the answer but had to know.

“He seems fine too. I mean, they had a bit of a moment in the hospital, but since then, there hasn’t been anything to be… concerned about.”

There was a pause.

“That means nothing.”

A heavy silence fell over them, unspoken words speaking louder than the two of them ever could.

“You think something could happen?”

“It’s a possibility.”

“He wouldn’t, though, would he? Not with Saige here.”

“That’s putative, but we could be wrong. I’ve been wrong before.

“I’ll look after him. I’ll make sure nothing happens.”

“Thank you.”

With that, the line was cut off.
