Word of the Day Challenge: Volitant

Volitant – engaged in or having the power of flight

Disclaimer: Don’t own Doctor Who

Jo had been doing her best to ignore the Doctor; she had her own piece of work to be getting on with, after all. She had been doing rather well, too, until there was a large, metallic clatter and a grumbled curse.

She lifted her eyes, keeping her face angled towards the paperwork on the table before her, but watched as the Doctor reached down to the floor to retrieve whatever had dropped.

When he straightened up, he was holding a thick piece of silver metal, bent in the middle to form a right angle.

The curiosity became too much. She had to ask.

“What exactly are you doing, Doctor?” The Doctor looked up at her, a warm smirk tugging at his lips.

“It’s for the TARDIS,” he explained. “To make it more volitant.”

Jo’s brow furrowed. “It’s a spaceship.”

“It’s a timeship,” he corrected. “Its ability to travel through space without going through the Time Vortex is woefully inadequate.”

Jo looked down at the contraption which the Doctor was building. “And that will help, will it?”

The Doctor pursed his lips at her teasing tone. “Hopefully.”
