CWS Exercise: Describing a setting

For this exercise, we were given a series of photos of landscapes and other settings. We were told to choose one and describe it. We only had about fifteen minutes or so, which is why it’s rather short.

The world they saw before them was purple. The world on which they had landed – and he still hadn’t told them what that world was yet – was stained with mauve. The sky stretched endlessly above them, clouds drifting peacefully over their heads. The tranquillity that they enjoyed seemed almost wrong in the harsh, rocky landscape, where – even though a lake of gloriously fresh water stretched out before them, trickling away into the mountains – it seemed as though nothing would be able to survive; not even them.
